Extension of Sri Lanka’s Southern Expressway

Extension of Sri Lanka’s Southern Expressway

The construction of the Extension of Southern Expressway (ESEP) from Matara to Hambantota consists of 96 kilometers of a four-lane expressway split into four sections. This project was the final phase in connecting Katunayake Airport to Kataragama via a series of expressways resulting in a mere three and half hours traveling time from Colombo. Exim Bank of China funded the total project cost of USD 180 million.

Section 2 and Section 3 of the project used Rawlplug products, including R-KEX II bonded anchors with rebar and threaded rods. R-XPT through bolts were used to install safety barriers along the expressway. Since Sri Lanka Road Development Authority has planned to connect major cities in the country with more expressways in the future, Rawlplug will work hard to be part of those projects too.
